Day 17: The Plan

Every year as a church, we pray & fast corporately for 21 days to get clear direction from God for our lives and the new year. This year, we will be reading the book of John together (1 chapter a day). Today is Day 17.

Today’s Reading: John, Chapter 17

Author: Mara Culley

Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. John 17:17-19

We see in this verse that Jesus is praying for His disciples. He was asking God to protect them. Sanctify means to set apart to a sacred purpose.

As disciples and followers of Jesus Christ, we all have a purpose, and every purpose comes with a plan.

The plan: our plan, your plan, my plan is in the truth, and the true plan is in the word. So…the better we know the truth, the better we know the plan for our purpose, the better we can follow His plan for our lives. I know that I will make better decisions when I can recall what the Bible says for clear direction when facing daily trials. It is my map and compass. If I don’t take time to study and know the word, then I may get lost and not reach my purpose at all. I may wander around lost for way longer than God had intended (as the Israelites did coming out of Egypt).

God calls us to daily sanctification, to daily instruction in His truth, His plan, and His purpose for you and me.

As we have all been reading daily in John together, I’m sure that you could journal the changes that you have seen spending time with God every day. My challenge to you is to continue this beyond this 21 days of fasting. I also challenge you to find your secret place, your prayer closet, your meeting place with God. Then, spend time there every morning listening, searching, and getting to know who God really is!

I promise you, you will see a harvest!
