Every year as a church, we pray & fast corporately for 21 days to get clear direction from God for our lives and the new year. This year, we will be reading the book of John together (1 chapter a day). Today is Day 20.
Today’s Reading: John, Chapter 20
Author: Hollie Bryant
“Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you see Me. Those who believe without seeing Me will truly be blessed.” John 20:29
The story of John 20:1-18 opens with Mary Magdalene going to the tomb early to discover that Jesus is gone. Overcome by emotion, she mistakenly thinks that someone has taken Him. She quickly runs to tell someone and finds Peter and John. Together, they rush to the tomb. Later, alone at the tomb, she has a supernatural visitation from angels. Leaving the tomb, still overcome by circumstance and grief, Mary would not recognize the next person she would speak to as being Jesus Himself.
Let’s take a look at our lives and see how it is we do the same thing Mary did:
How often do we make the wrong assumptions about people and experiences?
How quickly do we run out to tell others about it?
How quickly do others join in with our wrong thinking and unbelief?
When we experience a touch from God, a prophetic word, or supernatural experience, do we quickly return to our unbelief?
How often do we have the truth in our hands (THE BIBLE), yet cannot see or hear what HE is trying to say to us?
My friends, we could have Jesus physically standing right in front of us, and yet still not see the truth due to overwhelming emotions, grief, and the cares of this life.
Our job is simply to believe. If we can believe, then we can have LIFE through Jesus. This Word from the very mouth of Jesus was written so that we would BELIEVE.
My challenge for you today is to take a moment and examine your life. What are the things God has called you to do? Where is it you do not see clearly? In which situations do you run to others when you need to run to Jesus? What are you speaking about your life, dreams, and goals? What is God’s Word saying to YOU?
Your job is to take Him at His Word.
Can you believe without seeing? Believe BEYOND your present circumstances and emotions and be prepared to be exceedingly and abundantly blessed BEYOND what you could ever ask for, think for, hope for, or imagine!
